How to prepare your Business or Home for a Flood or Fire

What is ERP? Why should every home and business have one?

In a best-case scenario, we never have to worry about emergencies such as water damage, fire damage, or other disastrous situations. But, they come when we least expect it and usually when we are the least prepared for it! Many businesses and homes have a plan to get out of the building if a disaster arises but don’t have a clear idea of what to do next. The reality is that the quicker water or fire damage is controlled and cleaned up, the less it costs you or your insurance, and the less time you are out of your home or business!

When you are talking about dealing with water damage, the mold should always be on your mind. Not taking care of the water damage can quickly lead to a massively expensive mold issue. If not tended to, it can double or triple the repair costs and time from the original water damage issue. Having a company on call who can respond within 1 to 2 hours can have a significant impact on keeping mold growth to a minimum or eliminate possible mold growth in the first place.

ERP stands for Emergency Ready profile. The designed for building with 100,000 square feet or less. It is intended to be a quick and easy snapshot of the building or home to provide relevant information in the case of an emergency. In the case of a business disaster, only 40% of the businesses who face a disaster ended up closing. Of the 60% who do not close, 75% of them had an emergency plan of action.

The ERP contains

  • An Emergency Action Checklist
  • Building shut off points for water and electricity with pictures.
  • Emergency contacts
  • Insurance information for the Building and contents
  • Utility Service contact information with account numbers
  • Property Overview
  • Primary Contacts

A copy of the ERP can be printed out in a paper form or kept in an electronic form with the FREE Ready Plan App by SERVPRO that can be on an Android or IOS Device. The App is downloaded to every employee or family member’s mobile device, and your ERP is shared across devices, so everyone has the same plan of action!

You can complete the ERP yourself, or you can request to have a local SERVPRO professional come out and create your custom ERP utterly free of charge.
