What is a Biohazard?
This past weekend was a busy one for us. Good for us, not so much for our clients. One of the calls we got was from an apartment complex we are a vendor for who had a renter who committed suicide. Now, our industry isn’t the most glamorous industry and a lot of our work comes from emergency issues where our clients deal with present and lingering suffering of loss. The loss of a person’s life is obviously the worst case scenario and one we and our clients take very seriously. It is a very sensitive event. That is one of the reasons we work hard to develop relationships of trust with businesses and residents of the areas we work in.

As far as biohazard events are concerned, a lot of them are due to suicides, but there are a lot of other events which cause the need for professional biohazard clean-up. A biohazard, as defined by The Arizona State University Biological Safety Manual, is defined as:
“Any microorganism (including, but not limited to, bacteria, viruses, fungi, rickettsia, protozoa or prions) or infectious substance, or any naturally occurring, bioengineered, or synthesized component of any such microorganism or infectious substance, capable of causing:
- Death, disease, or other biological malfunction in a human, animal, plant, or another living organism;
- Deterioration of food, water, equipment, supplies, or material of any kind; or
- Deleterious alteration of the environment.”

Before and after of a Cat Biohazard scene.
" The man had passed away in his home unattended, and he had given up on his life. He had not been throwing things away, and there was just a lot of stuff in there. It wasn't collecting, it was trash," Jen from RESTORATION AND REMEDIATION.
The man's body was in the home nine days before he was found. They said it was a nice warm day well over 80 degrees outside. The body had decomposed so badly that some of the body fluids had gone through the floor and down into the basement walls.
This meant there was a lot of Biohazard work to be done before even thinking about cleaning up the rest of the home. What you see here is cat feces. Everywhere in this house had been affected by Cats. If you have a friend that has a situation that they need to get taken care of. Give us a call SERVPRO is here to help. Just like how we helped this couple.

A square piece of carpet was removed with the help of friends of the deceased.
A Husband, a father, and a friendly neighbor had passed. The Home Owner was supposed to go on a trip, and his neighbor was going to take him to the Airport. Once the neighbor had noticed things were not like they should be, she immediately called 911.
